Admission Policy/Requirements/School Fees
a. Candidates for admission into the Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing programme must
possess the RN certificate with a minimum of one(1) year post-registration experience and are
currently licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. In addition, candidates must
possess the senior secondary school certificate or its equivalent with credit in at least five
subjects, to include English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and any other relevant
science subject in not more than two sittings. A combination of West African Examination
Council (WAEC) and National Examination Council (NECO) results for admission is allowed as
contained in circular
Nr. EV/AC/08/XC/XI/94 of 2010
b. A student shall only be admitted after due application that meet with the requirements as spelt
out in the advertisement notice and duly selected following a common entrance and interview by
management. Any student so admitted is deemed to have fulfilled the following conditions:
– Present a duly completed acceptance form obtainable from the school on payment of non
refundable fee of One Thousand Naira (N1000.00) only within two weeks of offer of
provisional admission.
– Pay complete fees/charges as stipulated by the School of Psychiatric and Mental Health
Nursing within two months of resumption.
– Any student who breaks his/her training period for a maximum period of one month will be
advised to withdraw from the programme.
– No student shall be allowed to pursue any course of study in any other institution during the
period of training since it is a full time programme.

Orientation of Students
All students duly admitted shall on resumption report to the class coordinator and the
Administrative Officer for registration and opening of personal files. Orientation tour of
facilities within the school and the service areas shall be addressed by the Principal
Officers within the first week of resumption.
Indexing of Students
Indexing of students shall be done six weeks after resumption, in compliance with the
directives and requirements of N&MCN.
Capping (Matriculation) Ceremony
A one day Capping Ceremony and Introductory Programme shall be organized for the
newly admitted students within eight weeks of admission.
Transfer of Students
No transfer is allowed in a Post Basic Psychiatric Nursing Programme.
Medical Examination/Certification
This is one of the requirements for admission into the school. Medical examination shall be carried out in the Hospital on arrival at the School.
Certificate of fitness issued only by Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Calabar is acceptable.
Leave/Vacation
Students are entitled to a total of 28 days vacation leave only, during the period of training.
In the event of sick leave, absenteeism, or pregnancy in excess of 28 days, the student shall
not be eligible for the afainal Qualifying Examination by the N&MCN.
